Your education should be on your terms. That’s why Chipotle offers financial support no matter the path (or school) you choose. With our educational assistance program, the options are endless – in addition to offering discounted tuition for more than 10,000 classes and programs, Chipotle can also cover up to $5,250 a year for any accredited 2- or 4-year university.
Looking for a catch? You won’t find one here (just maintain a “C” average and do well on your next Chipotle performance review!). With this program, Chipotle makes balancing school and a career achievable. But don’t take our word for it. Let’s check in with a real Chipotle student-employee who just earned his master’s degree.
Meet Renauldo: Recruiting Strategist, burrito aficionado, and proud owner of a master’s degree in Human Resource Development. When Renauldo joined the Chipotle team three years ago, furthering his education seemed like a pipe dream. But with the help of tuition assistance from Chipotle (and a push or two from his team), Renauldo completed his two-year program and is putting his new degree to good use. We sat down with him to ask a few questions:
Q: How did you first hear about Chipotle’s educational assistance program?
A: As a recruiter, tuition assistance is a value-added benefit that we encourage our restaurant managers to promote when looking for outstanding people to hire. I decided to take advantage of the benefit because Chipotle made it extremely easy to access.
Q: Why did you decide to go back to school and continue your education? Would you have enrolled in this program if Chipotle didn’t have an educational assistance program?
A: Education has always been something I valued, but I made too many excuses on why I could not do it. Once my wife decided to go back to school, I knew it was the perfect time because we could study together (very romantic, I know). I chose my particular program (Master of Science in Human Resources Development) with Villanova University because it was a top-five rated program and required all its students pass a Human Resources certification to graduate. I liked the idea of achieving both a master’s and Human Resources certification at the same time. I am truly thankful to be supported by such a great organization like Chipotle because if there was not a tuition assistance option, I would not have remotely considered going back to school.
Q: How do you balance school and your career?
A: With a scale… Just kidding. I chose a program in which my classes were at night, so I could dedicate myself to Chipotle during the day and work on school at night. I had to sacrifice many “Sunday Fundays” to achieve the results I wanted, but it was definitely worth it in the end!

Q: How have Chipotle and Guild support you on your journey?
A: My manager Beverly, as well as my entire recruiting team, has been extremely supportive of my pursuit of my master’s. In fact, when I was stalling to complete my acceptance paperwork, she was the one that kept pushing me to finish and submit. My co-worker Alli so graciously read and edited my first paper. On many occasions, my co-worker Johanny helped reassure me that I was making the right decision to stick through the process. It took a Chipotle village to finish this degree!
Q: Have you learned anything in your classes that has impacted your life at Chipotle?
A: Absolutely! Human Resources policy fuels a lot of the things my team and I do on a daily basis. My program has made me much more conscious of policy and procedures that affect our organization.
Q: What would you say to someone not in school that’s thinking about working at Chipotle?
A: What are you waiting for, huh? There has not been a more exciting time to join our organization. We have a fantastic new executive team that has brought true role clarity to each position in the company and success has never been more clearly defined. The opportunity to grow and develop is real! Whether you join Chipotle and move up our awesome career path or you decide to be a reliable contributor while pursuing your education and taking advantage of the tremendous benefits, you really cannot lose – plus you get FREE BURRITOS! Again, what are you waiting for? You could have already put in an application and be interviewing by now! FREE BURRITOS!
Q: What’s your go-to order at Chipotle?
A: It depends on how hungry I am. My hungry choice is a little bit of brown rice, black beans, chicken, tomato salsa, lettuce, and guacamole on the side. Less hungry is a burrito with white rice, fajita veggies, barbacoa, carnitas, sour cream, and lettuce, then I use the smoky chipotle sauce! So delicious!
