Meet Jonathan, Field Leader

When Jonathan first joined the Chipotle team, he was surprised at how much more passionate his teammates were than at previous jobs – passionate for supporting each other, for building their careers, and for Chipotle and our company purpose. Now a Field Leader overseeing a patch of restaurants in California, Jonathan is sharing and growing that passion with his own team.

 Q: Why did you make the decision to work at Chipotle?

A: My Executive Team Director won me over by speaking about Chipotle’s mission, the company’s commitment to Food with Integrity, and being a part of a great people culture with the opportunity for advancement.


Q: Why have you stayed?

A: It has to be for the people. We have such amazing people and culture which made me fall in love with Chipotle. I want to be part of Chipotle’s future growth and success.


Q: How does Chipotle compare to the other companies you’ve worked for? What are some of the biggest differences?

A: The work environment and culture at other companies is completely different. At other companies, people come in just to do their job; they don’t have a tight bond with the employees, guests, or a company purpose, and have no passion for what they do. But here at Chipotle, you do everything with a purpose and the leadership recognizes you for the hard work you do. The constant support I receive from my leaders and peers is amazing.


Q: How would you describe your role to someone who knew nothing about Chipotle?

A: As a Field Leader, I focus on working shoulder-to-shoulder with my General Managers on everything from building a great bench of people to operating their restaurants. I also work with the General Managers on building a strong training plan to ensure that we have consistent training practices and that are executed daily. I validate that the restaurants have the best systems in place to deliver an excellent guest experience to every guest. By helping my General Managers achieve all this, we will hit our annual sales and cash flow plans.


Q: What advice do you have for someone who is interested in becoming a Field Leader at Chipotle?

A: My biggest advice for becoming a Field Leader would be to master every single report, procedure, and best practice. By doing so, you really learn all the ins and outs of Chipotle and become the best source of support for your patch of restaurants.


Q: What do you think your future holds for you here?

A: I would love to be an Executive Team Director one day. I feel that I work under an awesome leadership that will get me to my goal and will continue to help me develop into higher roles within Chipotle.


Q: What is your go-to order at Chipotle?

A: My go-to order at Chipotle is a steak bowl with white rice, extra steak, hot salsa, corn salsa, sour cream, cheese, and, of course, guacamole!
