Today, he’s a Chipotle Restaurateur running his own restaurant (and enjoying his favorite burritos for free!). Q: What did you do before working at Chipotle? How long have you been with our team?
A: Before working at Chipotle, I was a lifeguard. I have now been with Chipotle for 8 and a half years. I was here on and off while I finished college and would work on and off through the holidays and summer vacations.
Q: Why did you make the decision to work at Chipotle?
A: Free food! Before participating in a Chipotle fundraiser at school, I had never really heard of Chipotle. I very quickly became a regular customer and then one day, the General Manager asked me if I ever thought of working here.
Q: What has surprised you the most about working at Chipotle?
A: The dynamics of people. I have met so many people (both managers and crew) throughout the years and I’m surprised that so many people from completely different backgrounds can work together so well. It’s just so nice to have a job that everyone loves going to.
Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of reaching Restaurateur?
A: Just the fact that it’s possible. I went from being a cashier that said he never wanted to move up in the company to leading a team of people who support and believe in me. I believe that it’s the support around me that helped get me here.
Q: What advice do you have for others on the road to Restaurateur?
A: Don’t give up and trust your team. If you have people on your team who you don’t think you can trust, then you shouldn’t have them on your team. It only works if everyone believes in it.
Q: What’s next for you at Chipotle?
A: I’m currently trying to throw my hat in the ring to lead the opening of a new restaurant. My goal is to open that store and get that team to the Restaurateur level. Longer term, I have aspirations to work in either IT or Facilities.
Q: What is your go-to Chipotle order?
A: A chicken burrito with white rice, chicken, corn salsa, cheese, and sour cream at least 4 times per week for the last 8+ years!
