“Chipotle does a great job giving us the tools we need to set each other up for success … I learn something new every single time I train someone.”
– Amber, Restaurateur at Chipotle
Q: Why did you make the decision to work at Chipotle?
A: I loved eating Chipotle just like almost all college students. My friends and I would go almost every Sunday afternoon, so when they opened a new store near my school, I decided to apply. It was supposed to be a summer job to make some extra cash and get free food before starting my senior year in college; that idea changed when I fell in love with the culture cultivated within the company. Within a few weeks of working, I was hooked.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Chipotle?
A: My favorite part about working at Chipotle is training, whether it is training a new crew member or a new manager. Chipotle does a great job giving us the tools we need to set each other up for success. When done correctly, the training process can be really rewarding for both the trainee and trainer. I learn something new every single time I train someone. There’s also nothing better than the feeling you get when you tell someone you believe in them so much that you want them to be a manager on your team. Some of our crew members have never been recognized for their hard work in previous jobs or never been given the opportunity to develop into a manager, so the pure joy and pride you can see on their faces is priceless.
Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of reaching Restaurateur?
A: Reaching Restaurateur was honestly surreal. For a long time, it felt like it was a pipe dream that I would never accomplish. But my team and I worked hard and I had so many incredibly talented and thoughtful people in my corner pushing me and encouraging me through the tough times. It sounds really cliché, but the most rewarding aspect of reaching your goals is always the journey and the people you find along the way. There are so many people that were integral to my success and I would be nothing without my team and my support system across many restaurants.

Q: What advice do you have for others on the road to Restaurateur?
A: No matter what, do not give up hope. For a really long time, it felt like becoming a Restaurateur was a pipe dream. There were some really bad days when I wanted to throw in the towel, but when you surround yourself with great people who push you, support you, and remind you of how great you can be, the road to Restaurateur gets a lot smoother.
Q: What’s next for you at Chipotle?
A: I plan on helping the rest of my patch reach Restaurateur and eventually moving on to becoming a Field Leader. I would eventually love to transition into a corporate position within the company such as Marketing, Training, or Recruiting so I can use my restaurant operations knowledge combined with the knowledge and skills I acquired while getting my degree.
Q: What is your go-to Chipotle order?
A: You can usually find me eating a quesadilla if I’m eating in the restaurant!
